The deaf education program is designed to provide students with the coursework and field experiences necessary to be licensed as an Intervention Specialist in the area of Deaf Education.
The Deaf Education Intervention Specialist license is valid for teaching learners from ages 3 through 21, and grades pre-kindergarten through 12, who have been identified with a hearing loss (e.g. deaf, hard-of-hearing.)

About the Workshop: On Friday, November 13th, 2009 the Kent State University Department of Deaf Education and the Center for Outreach Services at the Ohio School for the Deaf will be sponsoring a workshop titled "Parking Lots and Skating Rinks: Optimizing Language and Literacy for Children with Hearing Loss". This workshop will be hosted by Mary Koch, a veteran auditory education consultant with over 30 years experience working in schools, clinics, and hospitals with children and families affected by deafness and hearing loss. She is also co-developer of the ACoRN project at Boys Town National Research Hospital; a national model of training and support for professionals serving students who are deaf or hard of hearing.
