I earned my B.S. and M.A. degrees from Northwestern University in 1972 and 1973. I then earned my Ph.D. from the University of Iowa in 1979 and have been on the faculty at KSU ever since (too lazy to move).

Along the way, I have obtained extensive clinical experience at the VA Medical Center in Iowa City, IA, St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, IA, and through home health practice in Portage County.

My areas of expertise include neurogenic based problems in speech and language in adults. Although I have helped my students conduct research in a number of areas, my specific interests relate to semantic and contextual processing in adults with aphasia. We are currently trying to identify the best way to characterize semantic feature knowledge as it contributes to comprehension and naming performance in aphasic adults. The beard is gone.
