Proposal / Paper Submissions

CALL FOR PROPOSALS

The Educational Research Exchange (ERE) is an annual conference organized by a consortium of universities, which include Central State University, Cleveland State University, Kent State University, The University of Akron, and Youngstown State University. This year conference is sponsored by the College of Education, Health and Human Services (EHHS) at Kent State University (KSU).

The ERE provides an excellent opportunity for graduate students and faculty advisors to present and share their research at a scholarly conference which is an important component of graduate education. From proposal submission to final presentation, every step provides a constructive opportunity to acquire an array of valuable skills for professional development.

This conference provides an excellent collegial atmosphere for beginning scholars to acquire and develop research dissemination skills. Conference registration fee is $10.00 for which the participants will be provided with a continental breakfast, lunch, and a closing reception in addition to taking part in the daylong conference.

PROPOSAL SUBMISSION PROCEDURE

The length for ERE proposals is set at 300-350 words. Generally, among the areas to be covered in a conference research proposal include: the purpose, research question(s), significance and/or potential contribution, research method, data analytical method(s), and research findings.

In preparing a research proposal for the ERE 2008, make every effort to provide information on as many components mentioned above as possible. Additionally, it is also important to keep in mind that the proposal review committee takes into account the clarity and the quality of writing (free of grammatical, spelling, and other errors).

Two session formats are available, paper sessions or poster sessions, of which the descriptions are given below. All proposals will go through a blind review process. Therefore, any author identification information should not be included in the proposal. Research paper/poster proposals are due by January 11, 2008 and the required information is given under Proposal/Paper Submission.

SESSION FORMATS

Paper Sessions

Full papers should contain an Introduction, Methodology, Results, and Discussion sections. Generally, a paper session is scheduled for the length of one hour time period and consists of three to four papers. Each session is organized under a specific topic and is managed by a session chair who organizes the session and introduces presenters.

Each session will also have a discussant who will provide critical comments on each paper. Each Participant will have approximately 12 minutes to present a summary of her or his paper, and computers and video projectors will be available for presentations.

Presenters must bring their presentation work in an electronic format, preferably on a flash drive. Presenters are encouraged to arrive early at the presentation venue to familiarize themselves with the presentation routines. A back-up plan is a good idea as no form of technology is fail-safe.

Each participant is required to provide 10 copies of his or her paper to distribute to the audience. Each presenter should send a copy each to her/his session chair and discussant by February 22nd, 2008. Contact information will be made available on time.

Poster Sessions

A poster session provides an opportunity to present research in a visual and interactive way and discuss findings with conference participants in an individual, informal manner. Posters should contain an Abstract, Introduction, Methodology, Results, and Discussion sections, and figure(s) and/or table(s) as appropriate.

The poster session will run for one hour, during which the author(s) will discuss her or his project and interact with participants who move around visiting poster exhibits. Please bring at least 10 copies of a handout (a synthesis of the poster presentation) for distribution among the visitors.

OUTSTANDING STUDENT RESEARCH AWARDS

Based on the quality of the research work submitted and the presentation given, Outstanding Graduate Research Awards will be presented at the conference. Work presented at ERE may be presented at another conference of author(s)’ choice, and monetary awards are to be used for educational expenses.

Further details are provided under Graduate Award Competition link.
