Comparative and International Education Society

The Comparative and International Education Society (CIES) was established in 1956 to promote cross-cultural understanding, scholarship, academic achievement and societal development through the international study of educational ideas, systems, and practices. The Society's members include more than 2000 academics, practitioners, and students from around the world. Gerald H. REad was one of the founders of CIES. Archives of CIES are housed at Kent State University.

World Council of Comparative Education Societies ( WCCES) is an international organisation of comparative education societies worldwide and is an NGO in Operational Relations with UNESCO. Kent State University annually hosts the National Teacher of the Year. The National Teacher of the Year Program, sponsored by ING, ING, is a project of the Council of Chief State School officers. The National Teacher of the Year is chosen from among the State Teachers of the Year, and continues as the oldest, most prestigious national honors program that focuses public attention on excellence in teaching.
