Information for Students

You are invited to participate in a special topics class at Kent State University that provides:

  • Opportunities to receive practical experience working with older adults in a structured setting
  • Expanded knowledge of adult development and theories of aging

This program fulfills 3 credits - HDFS 41095 (undergraduate) or HDFS 51095 (graduate).

Objective

The purpose of the Adult Development & Well-Being Program (ADWP) is to provide students with practical experience in working with the elderly in a structured setting. Students will become more knowledgeable about the characteristics and needs of the elderly participants and their culture.

Students will have the opportunity to:

  • practice assessment, communication and interpersonal skills
  • gain experience with program implementation and evaluation
  • apply their knowledge about adult development and theories of aging to the elderly participants.

Special Topics Credits

  • 3 undergraduate credit hours - HDFS 41093
  • 3 graduate credit hours - HDFS 51093

Information for Older Adults

You are invited to participate in class at Kent State University that provides:

  • Opportunities to interact with university students in one-to-one relationships
  • Opportunities to enrich your health and well-being through physical, recreational and educational activities

We are currently accepting applications from older adults for Fall 2006 semester. Older adults must have a medical release form in order to participate in physical activities. Please contact Dr. Audrey Kraynak at 330-672-3035 to receive this form.

The Adult Development and Well-Being Program (ADWP) focus is to enhance the well-being of older participants, especially in the areas of:

  • health
  • physical activity
  • knowledge about health and well-being
  • knowledge about community resources

Number of Participants

The size of the group will depend upon the number of college students registered for the program.

Cost

The cost is $25; however, no one is turned away due to lack of funds. Please make checks payable to: ADWP, Family and Consumer Studies .

Checks will not be cashed until the second week of the program.
